Reserves Win Thier Semi-Final.

The Saints Reserves are into The Alfred Sparey Cup Final after a 4-2 win over Kington Town Reserves.

Goal Scorers Richard Lynes(3) and Darren Horrigan.

Kington Town scorers were Neil Price and Ryan Newtown.

The Saints were slow out of the blocks and could of been two or three down early on. Veteran Neil ‘Skippy’Price put Ryan Newtown through on goal in the 5th minute but Tom Bevan saved well with his feet. Two minutes later Price missed a golden chance from a corner, heading over the bar whilst unmarked from six yards out.

Kington went ahead in the 10th minute when Price was clipped trying to round Bevan, the referee pointed straight to the spot. Price picked himself up and scored from the resulting penalty. 0-1

The Saints gradually worked their way back into the game, a great piece of skill on the right wing by Callum Maddy saw the youngster turn his marker, he then crossed to the back post where Darren Horrigan was on hand to tap the ball into the net. 1-1.

In the 20th minute a ball from the back by Danial Elvestadd found Matty Tong who hit it first time over the centre backs head to the on running Richard Lynes, the striker scored past Tom Lewis to put The Saints 1-2 up.

Lewis made a good save from Lynes when he was clean through just before half time.

Ht 1-2.

On 52 minutes a lovely ball from the back by Chris Preece found Lynes this time he gave Lewis no chance and put us 1-3 up.

The game was pretty much put to bed in the 70th minute when Lewis saved a shot and the ball fell to Lynes who poked it home from close range to claim his hat-trick and put us 1-4 up.

Ryan Newtown had the last word for Kington with what can only be described as a “Wordly”goal, the youngster hitting a 40 yard cross field shot on the half volley giving keeper Bevan no chance.

Ft 2-4

A good win which puts The Reserves in the final on the same day The First Team are, both at Presteigne which is fantastic for the club. The manager gave man of the match to Chris Preece who was excellent, my personal man of the match was Jo Emmett who put a great shift in the centre of the park. A special mention also to 17 year old Richard Lynes who took his hat-trick really well and was a constant threat throughout. One of the Kington players said to me after “You had way too much pace when attacking for us to cope with”.
