SAINTS 6 NEWBRIDGE 0.

J.Wisniewski(2), B.Dyer(2),K. Jones(1), L.Bannister(1).

Match report to follow.

The Saints kicked off their home games in the Spar with an emphatic 6-0 win against Newbridge with all the goals coming in the 2nd half.

An even 1st half saw Newbridge going close when a 20 yard free kick was touched on to the bar by a flying Steve Price. Chris Jones should have also done better when he headed over from a corner. At the other end though the Saints had two very good chances when Gavin Williams probably should have done better when he wriggled free in the box within minutes of  kick off . I am sure Brian Dyer will also wonder how he missed with a header from 5 yards out with the keeper beaten. The rest of the half was fairly even with Newbridge well in the game. HT 0-0

Second half the Saints had a purple patch where they played the away side off the park with some good movement and clinical finishing. Dyer atoned for his earlier miss by scoring the first and the second was not long in coming to help settle the nerves. What a goal it was too. A Liam Bannister cross was met at the near post by Josh Wisienewski who flashed a header past the young Newbridge keeper. Wisienewski then played Kev Jones in although being well placed himself. Dyer got his second somewhat bizarrely as a Bannister cross came in low and Dyer trapped the ball with his head before getting up and rolling the ball into the net. Wisniewski got his second when he went through on goal, dummied the keeper and ran the ball home. After setting up two, new boy Bannister got in on the act when he smashed home from 20 yards after good work fromWill Goodwin.

A fantastic second half performance in which the Saints showed their attacking prowess. It was good to see the two midfielders getting on the score sheet which finished off a good night for the midfield who dominated the second half. Becksy still had to pull off a couple of excellent saves to keep a clean sheet to put the seal on a very satisfying evening. FT 6-0.
