The Saints beat Knighton Town FC 2-0 tonight under the lights at Forest Road.
Goal scorers were Kevin Jones who get on the end of a Jack Biggs header from a Brendan Hackett corner in the 18th minute. Jack Biggs then hit a 30 plus yarder for an early goal of the season contender in the 32nd minute.
We missed other chances, Steve Morgan went close twice after giving Michael Watkins a torrid time on the left.
Brendan Hackett and new signing Tom Jenkins were linking up well on the right causing the visitors defence a lot of problems. Hackett was caught late by Worton on the half mark the defender was lucky to escape without a booking.
Kevin Jones and Biggs had other chances but we just couldn’t get that third goal to put us out of sight. Keeper Jordan Baker had very little to do in the first half as we were the dominant side.
Ht 2-0
Knighton were much better in the second half and in the last twenty minutes threw everything bar the kitchen sink at us, however, our back four were outstanding on the night. Mark Jones and Sam Williams saw their efforts blocked as players put their bodies on the line to keep them out.
On 78 minutes the visitors should of had a penalty when Croose and Williams tangled but the referee was unsighted and didn’t give it.
Five minutes later Kevin Jones was bundled over in the box by player manager Adam Worton and in my opinion we should also of had a penalty, Jones was booked for his over zealous complaining.
Steve Morgan saw an effort well saved by Turpin in the Knighton goal, the ball trickling along the goal line before being cleared by Worton. Croose also saw his header cleared off the line from a Tom Jenkins corner.
Knighton continued to peg us back but in all honesty never really troubled Baker in our goal.
Ft 2-0.
A great team performance and a well deserved 3 points.
Knighton will be up there come the end of the season so it was a great win for us.
