The Saints were unlucky not to pick up a point against second placed Tywyn Bryncrug this afternoon at Forest Road.

The game started well for the homeside who moved the ball about well but struggled to test the visiting keeper early on mainly due to a well organised back four, it took 24 minutes for the first chance which fell to Kevin Jones who was set up by strike partner Josh Wisniewski, Jones’ shot was tipped around the post for a corner. Three minutes later Saints keeper Steve Price was in action when he saved a very dubious awarded penalty by diving to his left. Tywyn took the lead on 32 minutes after a cross was headed away by Chris Preece but it fell to a visiting midfielder who blasted a 20 yard shot past Price.

Hay tried hard to find an equaliser, 5 minutes before half time Josh Wisniewski robbed Tywyn’s fullback but his shot went inches wide, Tywyn went close just before half time but again the shot was inches wide. On the stroke of half time a Sam Powell cross fell to striker Jones who fed Wisniewski but his shot once more went just wide ht 0-1.

At the start of the second half Steve Goodwin hit a beaut of a shot from distance which yet again went wide, Tywyn responded with a shot on goal from a free kick on the edge of the box which Price tipped over the bar, 2 minutes later a clever turn and shot by the Tywyn number 9 went just over the bar. The visitors increased their lead in the 55th minute when a midfielder burst through unchallenged and scored from 14 yards.

The Saints made it 1-2 in the 70th minute when Sam Powells corner was headed in by Preece, the lead lasted all of one minute once again a player ran through unchallenged to give Price no chance 1-3. The Saints responded once again in the 80th minute after Steve Goodwins cross was missed for once by the Tywyn defence and the ball found Kev Jones unmarked who made no mistake from 8 yards out.

The last 10 minutes saw the homeside push Tywyn back but they defended very well with homeside having a couple of efforts saved well by the visiting keeper. ft 2-3

I felt we deserved a point but went to sleep after getting on top and pulling a goal back at 1-2, that was the killer blow for me. A much improved performance today compared to last week, lets take the positives into Monday nights game against Aber Uni.

Team- Steve Price, Wes Evans, Chris Preece(c) Phil Davies, Josh Davies(Gareth Jenkins), Will Goodwin(Tom Wilkes), Steve Goodwin, Sam Powell, Tom Weaver(Stu Davies), Kev Jones, Josh Wisniewski.
