Saints 3 Aberystwyth University 0.

The Saints got back to winning ways tonight with a hard fought victory against the students from Aber Uni, a brace from striker Kevin Jones and a first Spa league goal for midfielder Gareth Jenkins helped secure the three points.

Once again The Saints started the quicker Kevin Jones back heeled a ball into the path of Gavin Williams in the 1st minute and only a last ditch tackle stopped the midfielder from geting his shot away, they did go ahead ahead in the 9th minute after Sam Powell won the ball in the middle of the park but then over hit his pass to Kevin Jones, the ball went between the centre half and goalkeeper who both hesitated expecting the other to deal with it, whilst doing so Jones nipped in between them and rounded the keeper finishing with his right foot from around 10 yards for 1-0.

The Uni started playing well midway through the half and Preece and Evans had to put in some strong tackles to deny their front two getting in on goal, goalkeeper Steve Price nearly got caught when he came out of his area to collect the ball but after a bit of a goal mouth scramble and then a good save the ball was cleared to safety.

It was The Saints who found themselves 2-0 up just before halftime when the referee awarded a penalty for handball, Jones scoring to net his second of the evening. ht 2-0.

The early parts of the second half was The Uni in the ascendancy and 2 goal line clearances were needed to keep it at 2-0 plus Price making a couple of top draw saves from close range, after the early onslaught the homeside found their feet again and started putting pressure on the visitors with Gareth Jenkins impressing whilst raiding down the right and Steve Goodwin who had a couple of good runs through the middle but he was foiled just as he was about to pull the trigger on both occasions.

The final goal came with 6 minutes remaining, Jones took a corner and the ball came back to him out wide right, Jones crossed the ball into the box and it was met and finished by the oncoming Jenkins who fired the ball into the back of the net from 8 yards out. ft 3-0

A good performance and 3 much deserved points, we looked a little nervous for a while at the start of the second half but overcame it and got the third killer goal. I thought Preecy and Wes Evans were our two best performers on the night.

Team- Steve Price, Wes Evans, Chris Preece(c), Phil Davies, Gavin Williams, Gareth Jenkins, Sam Powell(Josh Davies), Stu Davies(Tom Weaver), Steve Goodwin, Kevin Jones, Josh Wisniewski(Will Goodwin).
