Goal scorer Brendan Hackett

The First Team came away from Radnor Valley FC with a point after an entertaining 2-2 draw with the hosts.

Goal scorers were Brendan Hackett and Steve Morgan.

The first half ended 0-0 but if both sides had taken their chances it could of been 4-4.

Jack Biggs blasted a long range effort over the bar for us, Joey Price then broke through on goal but put his effort wide for the hosts.

Price then blasted high and wide when in a good position, Matt Croose and Biggs both headed straight at the keeper from Snedden free kicks for us.

Callum Matthews went close for Radnor with a 30 yard clever shot/lob after seeing Jordan Baker off his line but his effort went inches over the bar.

From a Steve Goodwin free kick which was cleared by Sam Lloyd, Matty Tong blasted a right foot effort over the bar from 18 yards out.

Jack Price went close up the other end for the hosts but when the whistle went for half time the score remained 0-0.

Radnor started the second half well on top but didn’t really look like scoring in the opening 15 minutes.

We counter attacked and captain Brendan Hackett somehow scored from an acute angle, he went round the full back and as the keeper came off his line he managed to lob him, the ball landed in the top right corner of the net. 0-1.

I felt we looked comfortable even though they were well on top possession wise, we looked dangerous on the break but at this stage both defences were in control.

The game changed when the hosts brought on veteran Geraint Lloyd, within five minutes we were 2-1 down. Lloyd was involved in the opening goal which saw Matthews(I think) equalise on 73 minutes. Two minutes later Joey Price hit one of his trade mark free kicks from 25 yards which gave Baker no chance as the ball flew into the back of the net at pace.

In the 84th minute Jack Biggs sent an inch perfect pass to Steve Morgan who out paced his former team mates Sam Lloyd and Paul Morgan and finish well past Will Fowden.

Both teams could of won the game in the dying seconds, Biggs went close from a Rory Hackett cross, Radnor clearing the ball after a goal mouth scramble before a Geraint Lloyd header was cleared off the line from the returning Will Goodwin.

Ft 2-2.

An enjoyable game to watch for the neutral, Radnor put us under a lot of pressure in the second half but credit to our lads who never gave up and got the equaliser late on.

Radnor is a tough place to go these days, Steve Piggott has built a very good young side and has added some old experienced heads to go with them.

It was great to see Will Goodwin back on the field after a long term injury which required an operation, he gets my man of the match for us, I thought he was excellent throughout.

Thanks to Radnor for the hospitality before and after, good luck for the rest of the season. Keep up the good work Steve.

Team –

Jordan Baker, Tom James, Matt Croose, Steve Goodwin, Will Goodwin, Rob Snedden, Stu Davies, Jack Biggs, Steve Morgan, Matty Tong(Rory Hackett), Brendan Hackett.

The Reserves are through in ‘The Emrys Morgan Cup’ after beating local rivals Talgarth Town FC 2-1.

Goal scorers were Josh Wisniewski and Kyle Harding.

Jordan Harvey (Penalty) for the visitors.

I didn’t see this game so i’m writing what i’ve been told.

We edged the first half in a game of few chances. Ht 0-0

The second half started bad for ‘The Saints’ after Chris Preece had to leave the field with a groin strain. He was replaced by the experienced Tom Weaver, unfortunately Tom tripped Alex Simmonds in the area and gave away a penalty. Up stepped Jordan Harvey who made no mistake from 12 yards to give the visitors the lead.0-1

We were on top and finally got the equaliser after Josh Wisniewski hit a 25 yard left foot shot past Martyn Norwood in the Talgarth goal. 1-1

Defender Harry Gilbert was then awarded a penalty after he was tripped in the area, however, Wisniewski’s effort hit the cross bar which saw the score remain at 1-1.

Late in the game a lovely pass from Rob McNamara saw Kyle Harding sprint through and hit a shot across Norwood to put us 2-1 up.

There was one more bit of drama in injury time when Kyle O’Shea perhaps should of equalised for Talgarth but his effort went over the bar.

Ft 2-1.

A pleasing win against our local rivals after a couple of first team call ups and the experienced Kevin Jones and Stu Rees dropping out in the morning.

The Sunday Saints won this morning 4-2 against Rosey Athletic FC.

Goal scorers Darren Horrigan(2), Tom Landon and Nathan Heighway.
