The Saints picked another 3 points after a hard fought victory over a battling Waterloo Rovers side.

The Saints started the brighter but found chances hard to come by against the well organised visitors, the homeside opened the scoring with their first real chance after a top quality cross from the left by striker Josh Wisniewski was hit in first time by Gareth Jenkins for his 5th goal in 6 games. Midfielder Tom Weaver then went very close just 2 minutes after the goal but his well struck shot went inches over the bar with the keeper well beaten. The visitors equalised on 31 minutes after a dubious free kick was awarded just inside the half way line, the lofted free kick was played in and the tall centre forward beat everyone to the ball with a looping header to make it 1-1.

The Saints regained the lead on 41 minutes when they were awarded a free kick out wide on the left after a foul on Kevin Jones, while everyone was expecting a long ball to the back post to the jostling big men, Steve Goodwin spotted Weavers near post run and played in an inch perfect ball which Weaver guided by the Waterloo keeper to send the homeside side in 2-1 up at the break.

The second half wasn’t the best to watch in the driving rain, again Sam Powell ran himself into the ground closing down the visiting midfield, Gav Williams was causing them problems down the left and looked the best outlet for the Saints on a day of very few opportunities. Waterloo found it difficult to create anything with Wes Evans, Phil Davies and Captain Preece all in top form again although they did get manage to get the ball in the back of the net but the referee disallowed it for a push on Steve Price in the Hay goal.

The Saints nearly added to the score in the 81st minute after Josh Davies crossed and Wisniewski hit a first time effort which had goal written all over it but a great reaction save from the visiting keeepr saw it go out for a corner. Two minutes later Jenkins went close with a shot this time missing the target by inches.

The referee blew up without Price being really tested in the second half which gave Bayntons men 3 more points and moved them up to 7th in the league. ft 2-1.

A below par performance from the team but a game we never really looked like losing, I thought our defence looked very strong today as Becksy was never really troubled throughout. Chris Baynton selected Wes Evans as the man of the match.

Team- Steve Price, Gareth Jenkins(Josh Davies), Chris Preece(c), Wes Evans, Phil Davies, Gavin Williams, Steve Goodwin(Stuart Davies), Sam Powell, Tom Weaver(Will Goodwin), Kevin Jones,Josh Wisniewski.
