Results

The First Team are out of ‘The CWFA Cup’ after a 5-4 loss at Machynlleth FC.

Goalscorers were Jack Biggs(2) and Matt Croose(2).

The Reserves picked up 3 points after a comfortable 0-5 win at Builth Wells Reserves.

Goalscorers were Matty Tong(2), Rob McNamara, Matt Turrell and Tom Weaver.

Machynlleth 5 Saints 4

The Saints first team found themselves a goal down early on a very heavy pitch, midfielder Jack Biggs equalised within two minutes.

‘Mach’ went back ahead not long after which saw the home side go in at the break 2-1 ahead.

As the pitch got worse the home side played the conditions better and found themselves 4-1 up.

Biggs scored his second of the game making it 4-2. Another ‘Mach’ goal saw us 5-2 down with ten minutes left on the clock.

Matt Croose headed in from a corner for 5-3 and then with 5 minutes to go scored his second making it 5-4. Machynlleth saw the game out and are through to the next round.  Ft 5-4

Builth Wells Reserves 0 Saints Reserves 5.

Our reserves dominated this game from start to finish. Rob McNamara having the first chance of the game but the young impressive Builth keeper saved well.

On 15 minutes a Rory Hackett corner found McNamara who cut the ball back to Matty Tong on the edge of the area, he shot from 16 yards into the bottom right corner of the goal to put us 0-1 up.

McNamara then doubled the lead in the 19th minute with a good finish after being put through on goal.

Centre back Matt Turrell kept up his goal scoring form with a looping header over the keeper to put us 0-3 up.

McNamara then put strike partner Tong through on goal, his shot was saved on the line by a Builth defender, a penalty was awarded which Tong scored to put us 0-4 up.

There was a scuffle in the centre of the park from the restart which resulted in the referee showing 2 red cards for Builth and one for Kevin Jones, Jones’ after a second yellow card.

The second half saw Builth’s 9 men defend very well, Tong was through on goal but was brought down from behind which resulted in another penalty. This time the keeper saved, veteran Tom Weaver had the final say with a well taken goal late in the game to make the final score 0-5.

A good performance after a long break, the back four looked very solid and never looked like conceding.
