Saints Win Derby.

Goal scorer Callum Maddy.

The Saints beat newly promoted Brecon Northcote FC 3-1 last night under the lights at Forest Road.

After going a goal behind in the first half we immediately struck back through Tom Landon. Two second half goals from veteran Kevin Jones and man of the match Callum Maddy secured the points.

The opening 30 minutes was a cagey affair, the visitors saw more of the ball but it was ‘The Saints who went closest to scoring on a couple of occasions through Kevin Jones. Up the other end Joel Evans saw his headed effort well saved by Steve Jones.

Brecon beat the offside trap in the 30th minute and their striker put them 0-1 ahead. Just two minutes later it was 1-1 after Tom Landon closed down the keeper from a weak back pass and slotted ball into an empty net.

Ht 1-1

The second half saw us take control of the middle of the park and after several corners had gone begging, striker Jones headed in at the near post from yet another corner to put us 2-1 ahead.

More pressure followed which resulted in a free kick on the edge of the area, Callum Maddy curled his effort through a gap in the wall to put us 3-1 ahead.

Our defence held out for the remainder of the game, in fact if anything we could of added to the total but the referee blew the whistle with the score at 3-1

FT 3-1

A good performance considering once again several players were unavailable. Jenks and Burkey will hopefully start getting a few players back which will add competition for places.

Many thanks to Pughs of Londis for sponsoring the match. They chose central midfielder Callum Maddy as man of the match.
