Saints Win Away.

The Saints claimed all three points after a 2-3 win at Aber Uni FC.

Our goals were scored by Matty Tong and Jack Biggs(2).

The Saints come away with a hard fought 2-3 victory at Aber Uni. The game started at a good pace with the home side playing some nice football and both sides having a few half chances. Jack Biggs had a header saved by the legs of the home team keeper while Hay’s number one was threatened a few times from distance. As the first half went on the home side were getting more on top. They took the lead on 22 minutes after the Saints switched off. Uni capitalised on a poor pass in midfield they played the ball down the line and won a throwing. The throwing was passed to an unmarked Uni player who had a lot of space in the area,he got to the byline and won a corner. The corner was half dealt with before a wayward shot was headed in by the Uni forward to make it a deserved 1-0 lead. Uni remained the better side so manager Gareth Jenkins decided to change formation to double up in the wide positions as we were getting caught and try to get their wingers under more pressure. ht 1-0

 

 

The second half we come out a different side and the whole team knew that a lot more effort and desire was needed to get a result against a well organised home side.

 

The first 15 minutes after the interval saw the Saints create a few good crosses from Tom Landon and Will Goodwin from the right with Matty Tong and Darren Horrigan both going close. Jack Biggs and Callum Maddy were also starting to dictate the midfield creating a number of half chances.

The Saints did get their reward on 62 minutes when a pass from the midfield was sliced by an Aber Uni player into the path of Matty Tong who was returning from an offside position. Tong turned quicky and finished it brilliantly past the goalkeeper.

The game hit a bit of a dull spell for 10 minutes before out of the blue  ‘TheUni’ regained the lead with a brilliant curling strike which beat Bailey from 25 yards.

The heavy snow followed and continued for the last 15-20 minutes. The Saints kept battling away but the home side were defending well. Again the Saints got a deserved equaliser as Biggs hit a shot from 18 yards which beat the diving the keeper.

The game was heading for a draw with 3 minutes plus injury time to play, Jamie Howard played the ball down the line to substitute Harry Ratcliffe who knocked the ball past two defenders with pace, he got to the byline and cut the ball back nicely to Jack Biggs who was running into the box and made no mistake from 12 yards.

It was a superb fightback and a decent second half performance. Ft 2-3

Jack Biggs was impressive in the second half and took his two goals really well. Also the two centre backs of Chris Preece and Adam Finn had solid games and limited the home side to half chances.
