Bow Street 3 Saints 0.

The Saints wet down 3-0 at title chasing Bow Street on Saturday.

Manager Fil Wisniewski was dealt a massive blow before the game had even started when returning central midfielder Steve Goodwin turned his ankle in the warm up and couldn’t make the starting line up.

The following report is from the Bow Street website.

Bow Street kept their title chances alive on Saturday with a 3-0 victory over Hay St Marys at Cae Piod. However, with the game goalless at half time Street were in serious danger of dropping points after a lacklustre 45 minutes. The second half was a completely different story and Street were ahead within a minute. Half time substitute Darren Middleton was involved in the build up that led to Phil Evans’ pinpoint cross that was met at the far post by Tim Turner who continued his fine run of goalscoring form. Street doubled their lead on the hour after Gwyn Jones won the ball on the half way line and laid a neat pass into the feet of Joe Sherwood and after some neat interplay with the strikers the ball made its way out to Nicky Smith who curled a superb cross into the area which was headed home by Dafydd Davies at full stretch to score his first ever goal for Bow Street. With ten minutes remaining Middleton was felled on the edge of the area and from the resulting free kick Gavin Allen forced a neat save from the Hay keeper but Sherwood was on hand to score his third goal of the campaign. Owain James in the Bow Street goal had to make a decent save in the dying minutes to preserve Street’s clean sheet but all in all this was a job well done for the Magpies. Street manager Huw Bates was a relieved man at the final whistle: “I went to watch Hay lose quite heavily on Wednesday but as I suspected they were vastly improved today. If they’d taken their chances in the first ten minutes it could have been a completely different story but once we scored our first goal I felt reasonably comfortable that we would go on to win the game.”. Bates added: “I’m delighted for Daf as that goal has been coming for a few seasons now but our man of the match was Big Phil who did a great job in marking Kev Jones who is arguably one of the best strikers in the league.”. Goalscorer Daf Davies added: “It’s nice to remove this enormous albatross from around my neck but more important to help us pick up another three points. This hopefully gives us a bit of a psychological edge over Hay in our league cup semi-final on Tuesday night.”.
