Saints Win At Home.

The Saints beat Bont Fc 4-1 this afternoon at Forest Road.

The home side dominated the early exchanges and went ahead when captain Stuart Davies scored a brilliant goal after striker Kevin Jones flicked a throw in on, Davies some how flicked the ball  over the advancing keeper to make it 1-0. More chances followed but both sides found it difficult with the strong wind which the home side had the advantage of in the first half.

Teenager Wilf Ratcliffe put the Saints 2-0 up in the 28th minute after being released down the right by Chris Preece, Ratcliffe finishing well from 12 yards out 2-0. Phil Davies was again causing problems down the left with his non stop running but the Saints couldn’t put the game to bed and in fact the visitors nearly pulled a goal back but instead the strikers shot hit the side netting. Ht 2-0

Bont started the second half brighter and Tom Lewis had to be on his toes a couple of times to thwart a couple of long range efforts. Top scorer Rob McNamara scored a trade mark goal from the edge of the area after being set up by Stuart Snedden to make it 3-0.

The game went a bit stale after this, Bont pushed hard but the Saints defence stood firm, with 20 minutes to go Davies slipped a pass into Kevin Jones who hit a low drive past the diving keeper for 4-0.

Kevin Jones scored the 4th goal.

With 10 minutes left birthday boy Andrew Gilbert hit a long range free kick into the top corner to giving Lewis in the Hay goal no chance.

FT 4-1.

Manager Tom Weaver said he was pleased to get the three points with so many players unavailable, Wilf got a start and scored he also put in a good shift. Phil and Stu were full of running but Weaves picked Steve Jones has his man of the match.
