Sunday Saints Defeated.

The Sunday Saints lost 2-1 this morning against league champions Commercial FC.

It was 0-0 at half time in a tight affair, top scorer Craig Forsyth put us 0-1 up but Commercial showed why they are champions and scored two goals to win it 2-1.

The first half was a tight affair with some good football being played by both sides. Scott Bruton missed a couple of good chances for the home side and Hay keeper Tom Lewis made a brilliant save from a Leon Cooke free kick. Commercial did have the ball in the back of the net but it was ruled out for offside. Hay always looked a threat on the counter attack and Sam Bradley headed over from a corner. Hay’s best chance fell to Craig Forsyth who saw his curling effort saved by the Commercial goalkeeper after running onto a Phil Davies though ball. HT 0-0.

The deadlock was broken on the hour when Forsyth caught the Commercial defence napping, he latched onto a Ben Bevan throw and slotted the ball past the out coming  goalkeeper to put the visitors ahead.

Commercial were throwing everything at the Hay defence and finally got the breakthrough on 70 mins through Nick Britton. Both teams continued to look solid at the back with a draw looking the most likely outcome. Then on 78 mins a long throw from Commercial was misjudged by the Hay defence and the ball bounced through to Mark Phipps who headed in from a yard. Ft 2-1

Although Commercial had the better chances during the game I thought we defended well except for the mistake which led to their winner and deserved to hang on for a point. Phil Davies was superb in central midfield and Jake Atkinson had a very solid game at centre back, they shared the m.o.m award.

Congratulations to Commercial FC on winning the league.
