Home of the Saints

June 20th, 2008

Today I’ve been talking to the now retired ex captain of the Saints Steve(Berty)Jenkins about his time playing in the green and white of Hay. Berty will still be involved with the club on the committee but wants to spend more time with his two boys who I know are both very talented footballers. Berty had this to say….

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Hay Saint Marys football club for the good times I have had playing for the club.A special thanks must go to Derek Keeble for allowing me to be the club captain for four years playing under Derek as the manager of the club.I’d also like to thank Fil Wisniewski for allowing me to continue as captain in his first year as manager. Being club captain has been a real honour for me and season 2006/2007 was probably the most enjoyable I have ever had with winning the league and many cups. Thanks to all the players I have played with and the support they have given me as captain. I believe there are a number of excellent players within the club so the future for Hay looks bright.May I take this opportunity to wish Hay Saint Marys football club the very best for the future. My last thanks goes to all the supporters who turn out to watch the side rain or shine.

A big thanks to Bert for those words on his retirement.

I then put him on the spot and asked him to pick his all time best Saints team that he has played with.
