Reserves fly past Shobdon

The Saints’ Reserves won 5-0 at home against Shobdon with goals from Kevin Goodwin, Darren Horrigan (2), Callum Maddy and Ricci Lynes in a pre-season friendly.

Goodwin opened the scoring for the Reserves when he struck a 25 yard shot which deceived the ‘keeper. A further goal followed when Goodwin beat his man on the left and sent a cross across the six yard box for Horrigan to tap in. The Reserves were largely untroubled at the back and were well marshalled by Dan Jones and Tom Weaver as a centre half pairing.

Maddy grabbed a third when hesitancy on a back-pass allowed the youngster to sneak in and easily finish. Lynes then scored his first goal of pre-season with a right-foot shot from the edge of the area that crept under the ‘keeper’s grasp. The fifth and final goal of the evening was Horrigan’s second when he finished well inside the area.

It was a good workout for the Tiny Harding’s youthful looking team; they played some nice football on the bigger Forest Road pitch and used the width well at all times during the game. It could have been more than five with the strikers being a little more clinical, and players overplaying it at times, but it’s boding well for the start of the season on the 15th August.

Reserves: Bevan, Ratcliffe, Jones, Ward, Powell, Harding, Horrigan, Emmit, Maddy, Lynes, Goodwin.

Subs: Workman, Weaver, Edwards, Lewis.
