Saints Drop Points.

The Saints drew 1-1 today with visting Aberaeron FC after spending most of the afternoon on the front foot.

Jack Biggs opened the scoring in the 19th minute but a breakaway goal in the 75th by Gareth Severs saw the teams share the spoils.

The day started badly when a phone call came through that new signing Ryan Losito who was on his way to pick our striker Ryan Davies had been involved in a crash with a lorry. Luckily ‘Los’ is fine, unlike his car.

We had most of the possession in the first half but struggled to break down a resolute Aberaeron back line. In the 12th minute Rob Sneddens’ long range effort came back off the post to safety with the keeper for once well beaten.

More attacks were thwarted until the 19th minute when Snedden jinked his way past a central defender passed to Brendan Hackett who squared the ball to the on coming Jack Biggs to score from close range.

The pattern of play continued and again the post was struck with the ball once again not falling to one of our players and being cleared to safety.

The visitors were happy to sit behind the ball and counter attack using Mattie Davies as their target man, Davies has been top scorer in this league on a couple of occasions and his a handful.

Ht 1-0

The second half the visitors were more in the game but we still saw more of the ball but just couldn’t grab that all important second goal.

With ten minutes to go Gareth Severs reacted the quickest after a free kick into the area and found the back of the net. 1-1

We piled on the pressure and had a big penalty shout for handball turned down, to be fair to the referee there was a crowd of players in his way for him to be 100% sure and give it.

In the last minute after all our possession Aberaeron counter attacked and the ball fell to their left sided player,  with the goal at his mercy he shot wide.

There was just time for Snedden to hit another long range effort on the half volley that flew inches over the bar.

Ft 1 – 1

It felt like a loss to me with all the possession we had but in this league you have to take your chances. We actually played well and had a good side on the back foot most of the afternoon we just missed that killer edge when in and around the 18 yard box.

Many thanks to Roger Perry for sponsoring today’s game, he chose Rob Snedden  has his man of the match.
