Team News/Match Report

Hay entertain Presteigne res tomorrow in the League cup. The Manager reports that Gavin Williams(away) Kevin Jones(injured) will be missing, back in contention are Influential midfielder Mike Havard, utility player Josh Davies and striker Ollie Cooke. Brian Kirkham could make his first apperance in goal for the Saints. With the team full of confidence from the last few games the Manager is expecting a better performance against Presteigne than they gave in the league. Hay st Marys v Presteigne res k.o. 3 pm.

Hay ran out easy 8-2 winners against a weaker Presteigne side than visited Brecon Road in the league. For the second week running The Saints came out and scored early goals to put the game beyond the visitors within the first 15 minutes. Rob Snedden scored the first being set up by Garry Keeble. He then pounced on a defensive mistake to put Hay 2 up with only 7 minutes gone. A third goal was scored in the 15th minute when a defender trying to clear a corner hit his own player on the back and the ball flew in for an own goal. This was the end of the scoring for the first half as The Saints got a bit lazy. They could have been made to pay on a couple of occasions however Bryan Kirkham making his debut in goal for Hay made a couple of smart saves.

The second half continued in the same manner and it was no suprise that Presteigne scored to make it 3-1. This seemed to wake the home side up and they were soon 4-1 up with Mike Ward continuing his goal scoring streak when he snapped up a rebound after a good Tom Weaver header. Further goals were scored by Ward again with a right foot finish into the far corner from the right side of the penalty area. Chris Preece scored a couple, his second being a cracking right foot volley from 12 yards. Finally a Snedden penalty after he had been fouled for the umpteenth time in the game made it 8. Hay though were to gift Presteigne a second when they were caught 3 on 1 at the back and the away side worked it well for their second of the afternoon.

 In the second round The Saints now meet Rhosgoch at home with the game however not due to be played until March.
