The Saints started much brighter than last week, Jones and Biggs linked up well early doors, Luke Bowen in the Talgarth goal made two good one on one saves from Jones after Biggs had played him in.

Both sides went close around the 20 minute mark, again Bowen saved from Jones and up the other end Talgarth hit the bar from a free kick, the ref though adjudged a Town player offside.

The first goal came after 25 minutes play, Biggs had dropped into the hole between midfield and attack, he played an inch perfect through ball which Jones sprinted on to and finished past the diving Bowen for 1-0. The Saints continued to be the better side up until the 35 minute mark, Talgarth then had their best spell in the game, they had a big penalty shout on 40 minutes after a Hay player looked to have handballed but the referee didn’t see it and waved play on, just seconds later they did get a penalty after Sam Bradley tripped one of the Talgarth players on the edge of the box. Talgarth captain Jordan Baker stepped up to face his old team mate stand in goalie Sam Powell, Powell guess right and saved well down to his left. Talgarth caused a few problems in that 10 minute spell, Powell had to make a couple of good saves but to be fair the defence looked solid last night led by captain Stu Davies. Ht 1-0.

Saints manager Tom Weaver had some harsh words to say during the interval, he felt his team should of scored more but had gone to sleep and let the visitors back into the game.

The second half started slow, with not a lot of action, Steve Goodwin intercepted a through ball and brought the ball out of defence, he played in Jones who slotted home from the edge of the box to make it 2-0.

The last 15 minutes the home team dominated, first Rob Macnamara played in Jones for his hat-trick on 77 minutes, then Jones and Biggs went close again but credit to Bowen who was injured he pulled off two good saves especially the one from Jones’ volley. With 5 minutes to go Jones netted his 4th after out muscling the Talgarth fullback, he finished well in the bottom right corner of the goal. Ft 4-0.

The conditions spoiled the game from the off but credit to both sides they tried to play football the right way, we have to stop going into our shell when we take the lead.

The gaffer thought Chris Preece, Rob Mac and Jack Biggs were our best players tonight, he was also full of praise for the defence and stand in keeper Powell who didn’t have a lot to do but what he did was very important when the score was 1-0.

It was good to see defenders Tom James and Steve Goodwin back in the squad for the game.
