Sunday Saints Go Marching On.

The Sunday Saints travelled to Hereford to take on United AFC, and it was another comfortable morning for Gareth Jenkins’ men as they strolled to an 8-0 win.

Hay took the lead after about 5 minutes when Phil Davies raced onto a bouncing ball 30 yards out and smashed a half volley that took a slight deflection that dipped just under the crossbar. 1-0. Davies doubled his and the saints score as he headed in a Dan Jones corner. 2-0. The hosts might have found themselves hard done by as play was fairly balanced and they had a goal disallowed for offside. It was 3-0 after 25 minutes, a hopeful ball forward was completely miss judged by the home goalkeeper the ball fell to Nathan Heighway who kept his composure and put the ball into the unguarded net. 3-0. Ten minutes later it was four, Johnny Daw was felled just outside the box, Zack Snape took control and curled the ball around the wall into the bottom corner. 4-0. Johnny Daw was rewarded for his great all round play during the first half with a goal of his own, he picked the ball out wide on the left, coasted past at least 4 defenders before strolling into the box and placing the ball into the corner, a great solo effort. Half Time 5-0.

The home side made changes at the break and tried to make it hard for Hay, they did look more threatening going forward but Hay looked like they were going to score from every attack. on 55 minutes Hay’s sixth goal of the game came, good work in the midfield from Wilf Ratcliffe resulted in Steve Jones letting fly with a half volley from the edge of the box that flew into the far corner. 6-0. It went quiet on the goal front until the 75th minute, Garry Keeble won the ball in the middle of the park and played a stunning through ball to Craig Forsyth who then lobbed the keeper from 18 yards. 7-0. In the 85th minute came the final goal, and Zack Snape saved the best until last, a free kick was awarded 25 yards out and Gareth Bale esq he smashed the ball into the top corner. The referee later said it was the best goal he had seen for a long while. Full Time 8-0.

Another 3 points for Gareth Jenkins’ men. It was the best performance of the season to date which sets them up nicely for a really tough test next week at home to Belmont. Johnny Daw had a great game upfront, It was good to see Steve Jones back in the starting line up, Zack Snape scored scored two brilliant free kicks but the Gaffers Men of the Match were Phil Davies and Wilf Ratcliffe.
